Jen's Sunday customer interviews

Cynthia
Age: 26
Occupation: Billing Manager for a dental office and a full time mom

Cynthia, her two children, and husband live with her parents in South Arlington.  She works a flexible schedule as a Billing Manager of a dental office.  She is of Peruvian decent and it is culturally acceptable for their family to all live under one roof.  Her sister, sister’s husband and their new baby also live with them in a large house.  She is busy going to nursing school and studies during her free time.  She considers herself to be very low maintenance and sometimes does not even comb her hair.  When she was single she would occasionally go get her nails done but would always have a friend do her makeup.  Once, when she was in a wedding, and for her own wedding, she had someone come to her house to do her hair.

Gabby
Age: 27
Occupation Billing and Assisting Clerk for a dental office and a full time mom

Gabby is Cynthia’s older sister.  Her husband recently found a job, but before he was working, her routine included waking her husband up, getting him to be attentive to their newborn, and then getting ready for work.  She stays in on weekends but does like to go to Zumba.  Sometimes she goes out for walks around the local park, happy hours, or goes to BBQs.  She is running the upcoming ROC race in an effort to continue to lose her baby weight.

When she was single, she went out almost every night.  She would always put on eye makeup and still does for special occasions.  Makeup is no longer part of her routine.  She still gets her nails done once in a while for fun but went more often when she was single.

Once I explain the concept of Beauty Bar, Gabby said she would only go if someone dragged her.  She said she is lazy and her hair is easy to do.  She will always do her hair herself.  Then she ended with taking her hair out of a pony tail, flipping her hair/head forward and back.  She wasn’t kidding, her hair is easy.  It looked amazing and totally not right with the sweats she was wearing.

Lessons learned:  Low income young mothers are not within our target markets.  And women with naturally beautiful hair are excluded as well.
